Portrait de Bernard Bezzina

Born in 1956, Bernard Bezzina lives and works between his workshops in France (Var, close to Toulon) and Italy in Pietrasanta (Tuscany), far away from the cities, in nature. This artist from the Var is both, sculptor and painter at the same time. We can even call him, in a certain romantic sense, “poet” of the materials that he uses in his works.

He looks for an almost impossible quest for total art, for total representation achieved by the reforming of amplified fragments. This exploratory work leads to the density of the sculpture.

Bezzina is both an intuitive and cerebral. He is committed to the notion of “Divition” which means division and recomposition and to which his research on matter led him. He deconstructs, fragments, shatters the structure and then proceeds to a fundamental reunion. Thus, we go from division to “ampliation”, a kind of alchemy that makes it possible to give the chosen fragment a power of a new order, which will be an independent entity, neither quite the same, nor quite another. A kind of explosion that says everything about being by staging only a part. “Divition” proceeds in this way.
