The Boccara Gallery director, Didier Marien, art lover and expert, has succeeded in creating a set of high quality, hand woven carpets in association with artists.

This collection brings another vision of the artists’ work. Each creation is unique, a work in its own right.

The artists are selected by Didier Marien according to his tastes, his affinities, but also according to the criteria of the art of the carpet. The “artist’s carpet” collection is a great success, very popular with collectors and several foundations.

Artists include Anatoly Stolnikoff, Genevieve Claisse, Manuel Cargaleiro and Auguste Herbin.

NEW COLLECTION OF CONTEMPORARY ARTISTIC RUGS 2020

In collaboration with Anna Mac, Ellen Richman, François Bonnel, Benjamin Ewing and David Stein

Didier Marien, which has been working with famous American and French artists for years, is pleased to announce that a new collection of artistic rugs is finally ready.

The inspiration for this collection is abstract art. Last year, Boccara Gallery started a collaboration with a group of selected artists representing this movement: Anna Mac, Ellen Richman, François Bonnel, Benjamin Ewing and David Stein.

To explain this project Didier Marien said, “the artist not only creates the design but at every step of the creation maintains the control over the project. The artistic rugs aren’t mere reproductions of an artist’s paintings but they are artistic pieces in their own right”.

This new limited-edition artistic rugs collection will be presented exclusively at the Palm Beach Show in February 2020.

All the artistic rugs are hand knotted and manufactured in the Boccara workshop to ensure the best quality and attention to detail.

With this new collection Boccara Gallery wants to match the particular practice of an artist with the complexities and subtleties of weaving and creates real works of art.

The Boccara Gallery is recognized as an essential reference for its expertise in Sonia Delaunay's tapestries. As a pioneer in the development of this artist, Didier Marien has assembled an exceptional collection of her tapestries. The Boccara collection now includes some of Sonia Delaunay's most emblematic pieces, such as "Serpent Noir", "Finistère", "Contrepoint", "Diagonale", to name but a few. These works offer art lovers a unique opportunity to dive into Sonia Delaunay's captivating universe and discover the extent of her artistic talent.

Didier Marien

What sets Didier Marien's work apart is his ability to capture the very essence of an artwork and translate it onto a unique medium such as a carpet. Each carpet he creates is a true work of art in itself, showcasing not only the artist's talent but also Didier's expertise in choosing colors, patterns, and materials.

Antonio Seguí

Antonio Seguí (born January 11, 1934) is an Argentinian draughtsman, painter, engraver, book illustrator and sculptor, currently living and working in Paris. He is one of Argentina's most emblematic living artists, still active and constantly exhibiting his work in various parts of the world. Seguí's works are collected and exhibited worldwide in art institutions such as MoMA, the Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Georges Pompidou, among others.

Auguste Herbin

Auguste Herbin (Quiévy 1882 - Paris 1960). Settling in Paris in 1903, he came into contact with the Fauves, Picasso, and Braque. Initially influenced by Impressionism, he later delved into formal exploration towards geometric abstraction, following a brief Cubist experience. He studied the relationship between different colored forms and colored space

Manuel Cargaleiro

Manuel Cargaleiro, born in 1927 in Vila Velha de Ródão, is a Portuguese artist specializing in ceramics and painting. Cargaleiro was self-taught. He created earthenware tiles, known as Portuguese azulejos, an art form that still retains its importance in Portugal and was introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by the Arabs.

Joan Miró

Joan Miró was a versatile artist who explored many mediums, including painting, sculpture and ceramics. But one of the most interesting mediums he used was textile art. Miró created several rugs and fabrics throughout his career, which helped expand his unique aesthetic into new territory.

Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso is probably the most important figure of the 20th century, in terms of art, and art movements that occurred over this period. Before the age of 50, the Spanish born artist had become the most well-known name in modern art, with the most distinct style and eye for artistic creation. There had been no other artists, prior to Picasso, who had such an impact on the art world, or had a mass following of fans and critics alike, like he did.

Diego Giacometti

Diego Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor and designer, and the younger brother of the sculptor Alberto Giacometti. Diego Giacometti was born in Borgonovo, a Swiss village near the Italian border. Son of Annetta Stampa and the painter Giovanni Giacometti, he grew up in a warm atmosphere amidst the animals of their farm. After business studies in Basel and St. Gallen, at age 25 he followed his brother Alberto, then a student of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle at the Academy of the Grande Chaumière. All three of the Giacometti brothers went into the visual arts: Alberto and Diego into painting and sculpture, and Bruno into architecture. The working relationship of Diego with Alberto was so close that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the work of Diego from that of Alberto, who have shared the same sculpture studio in Paris until the end of their lives, executing commissions.

Fernand Léger

A significant part of the Boccara collection is dedicated to the works of Fernand Léger. Didier Marien has been interested in the works of this artist for a long time. The way Léger dealt with modern subjects was far ahead of his time and paved the way for contemporary art, which is why the Boccara gallery is so proud to be presenting this artist.

Albert Gleizes

Albert Gleizes was a major 20th century French artist, theorist and philosopher, self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and influential on the School of Paris. Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on cubism, Du "Cubisme", 1912.

Boccara Collection

Boccara has its own workshop with more than 300 professional weavers. All raw materials used have the finest quality such as the “soft gold” natural silk and velvety wool from New Zealand, the yarns are available in more than 800 colours from ecologically natural dyes.
