In 1994, he bought the Boccara gallery and developed it in different directions, mainly by building up a collection of modern tapestries by the greatest artists of the 20th century (Sonia Delaunay, Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Mathieu Matégot, Jean Lurçat, Wassily Kandinsky and Victor Vasarely)

Artists’ rugs
A top-of-the-line collection
In 2000, Didier Marien created Boccara Design and developed a collection of high quality artists’ rugs, made with the strictest respect for ancestral weaving traditions. These carpets are made in a specially created workshop in order to control an irreproachable quality.
The choice of artists corresponds above all to an aesthetic approach that can be transposed into the world of the carpet
The choice of artists corresponds above all to an aesthetic approach that can be transposed into the world of carpets (Antonio Seguí, Albert Gleizes, Geneviève Claisse, JonOne, Auguste Herbin). This collection of artist’s rugs has been very successful with collectors and decorators and the gallery has presented them in the most important European and New York exhibitions.
“The artist does not just create the design, but at every stage of the creation he keeps control of the project. The art rugs are not just reproductions of an artist’s paintings, but are artistic pieces in their own right.”

French rugs
Savonnerie & Aubusson
Antique tapestries still play an important role, but the gallery only focuses on pieces of historical and cultural interest.
French rugs are also represented in the gallery’s collections, with a large selection of Savonnerie and 19th century Aubusson rugs.
