About Boccara Gallery

A Leading Gallery in Modern Tapestry and Textile Art

Boccara Gallery is an internationally recognized gallery specializing in modern tapestry, alongside artistic rugs and French antique textiles, with permanent spaces in Paris and New York. For over three decades, the gallery has developed a distinctive curatorial approach, bringing together historical works and contemporary creations, with a particular focus on positioning modern tapestry at the center of the art and design landscape.

Since acquiring the gallery in 1994, Didier Marien has shaped its vision with a deep expertise and a strong commitment to this medium. Under his direction, Boccara has assembled one of the most significant collections of modern tapestry and rugs, featuring major 20th-century artists such as Alexander Calder, Fernand Léger, Man Ray, Sonia Delaunay, and Le Corbusier.

Antique Textiles

French antique tapestries and rugs represent centuries of European craftsmanship, once commissioned by royalty and woven in renowned workshops such as Aubusson, Gobelins, and Savonnerie. Conceived as integral elements of interiors, they combine narrative, texture, and architectural presence.

Rooted in Didier Marien’s expertise, Boccara Gallery curates rare works that reflect this living heritage. From mythological tapestries to richly ornamented carpets, these textiles unite artistic ambition with technical mastery, creating immersive environments where history, design, and material beauty converge.

Contemporary Tapestry as a Living Art

In keeping with his commitment to living textile arts, Didier Marien has established a close collaboration with Atelier 3, a Paris-based weaving studio founded in 1972. Known for its independence and technical mastery, Atelier 3 creates contemporary tapestries in dialogue with today’s artists, reviving forgotten techniques through innovative, expressive works.

Atelier Boccara

Atelier Boccara transforms artistic vision into handwoven rugs, created in collaboration with contemporary and modern artists. Using traditional techniques and high-quality materials, each piece bridges art and design, combining texture, scale, and craftsmanship. From limited editions to bespoke creations, every rug is developed in dialogue with the artist and tailored to its environment. Designed to interact with space, light, and architecture, these works function as both artworks and integral elements of interior design.
