Contemporary Tapestries
Artistic Dialogue at the Loom
Boccara Gallery presents a distinctive collection of contemporary tapestries created in close collaboration with Atelier 3 and conceived from original designs by leading contemporary artists including Pierre Alechinsky, Arman, and Frédérique Bachellerie. These works embody a new generation of textile art, where weaving becomes a space for interpretation, experimentation, and shared creation.
Founded in Paris in 1972, Atelier 3 developed a radically modern approach to tapestry. Rejecting the idea of textile as mere reproduction, the workshop positioned the weaver as an active creative force. Working directly from the front of the loom, without rigid cartoons or industrial processes, each composition evolves organically, preserving the vitality and expressive intent of the artist.
The result is a body of work in which gesture, abstraction, materiality, and structure merge. Wool is often combined with unconventional fibers and metallic threads, extending the visual and tactile possibilities of the medium. Each tapestry stands as a dialogue between artist and artisan—balancing conceptual freedom with technical mastery.
