This rug by François Bonnel presents a composition built on the interaction of large vertical forms and contrasting color fields. The surface is structured around three main elements: a deep blue block on the left, a red form on the right, and a central dark axis that anchors the composition.

Each shape is simplified and slightly rounded, softening the geometry while maintaining a strong visual presence. The contrast between the saturated blue and red creates a clear duality, balanced by the neutral tones of black and off-white that introduce depth and separation.

Circular accents punctuate the composition—one in red, the other in black—adding a point of focus within each colored field. These elements break the uniformity of the larger surfaces and introduce a subtle rhythm, guiding the eye across the composition.

The structure remains stable and frontal, with a clear sense of balance between the left and right sides. At the same time, slight irregularities in the edges and transitions prevent the work from feeling rigid, reinforcing its handmade character.

The woven medium enhances these qualities. Variations in texture and tone soften the boundaries between colors and give the surface a layered, almost painterly effect. Light reveals subtle shifts within each field, adding depth without altering the clarity of the composition.
