Designed by Roy Lichtenstein in 1986, the Composition Tapestry artistic rug translates the artist’s unmistakable Pop language into textile form. Bold black contours, dynamic curves, and vivid primary colors animate the composition, creating a visual rhythm that feels both graphic and musical. The arrangement reflects Lichtenstein’s exploration of abstract composition during the later decades of his career, when he moved beyond comic imagery toward more fluid and expressive structures.

Unlike the flat surfaces of his paintings, the woven medium introduces texture and depth. In the Composition Tapestry rug, color fields and sweeping lines gain a tactile presence that transforms Lichtenstein’s graphic vocabulary into something spatial and architectural. The design retains the crisp clarity associated with his work while gaining warmth through the material richness of wool.

The rug was produced in Paris by Société Sedcome Éditions as part of a limited edition of one hundred examples. These collaborations between contemporary artists and textile publishers allowed major figures of twentieth-century art to extend their visual language beyond the canvas and into interior space.

More than a decorative object, the Composition Tapestry artistic rug represents a moment when Pop Art entered the domain of design. It reads almost like a sheet of music translated into color and line, turning the floor itself into a stage for Lichtenstein’s bold and unmistakable aesthetic.
